Don't be left wondering how much is too "mulch"!
1 / Measure Your Area
Measure the length and width of the mulching area.

Too large for a tape measure: lay twine along each side, trim to fit, and measure the twine, or pace off the length and width, estimating one step as about 3 feet.

Irregular shapes: divide the area into squares or rectangles, measure each, and add the volumes together.

Circular areas: measure as if it’s a square that fits around the circle—extra mulch is better than not enough.
*ADD 2-5% for uneven ground to ensure you have enough mulch for your project(s)
2 / Determine Depth
Consider the mulch depth: 2 inches for decoration, 4 inches for moisture retention or weed control, or 3 inches as a middle ground. Keep units consistent—convert inches to feet if needed.
